Biography & CV

Carlos Enriquez Gonzalez was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1968. Gonzalez began his fine art studies at The Cristóbal Rojas School of Visual Arts in 1989 and went on to obtain his Master's Degree in contemporary visual arts in 2002 after attending courses from The Art Students League of New York and the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Superiores de Artes Plásticas Armando Reverón (IUESAPAR).
Since then, Gonzalez's work has been displayed in installations, photography, 3D animation, and video art, though it is his sculptural forms that have garnered the most critical acclaim. Utilizing materials ranging from fiberglass to plastic to raw meat, Gonzalez embellishes his forms with metals, diamonds, platinum, gold, crystals, and automotive paint, creating a unity of polished three-dimensional constructions with more organic materials.
Gonzalez has utilized his variety of works to reflect upon existence through imagery that incorporates the grotesque and the sublime. Frequently using monstrously alien elements, such as mutations of mushrooms, eyes, and brains, in direct contrast to sacred allusions and sexual organs, creating an intimate world to explore his personal concerns and beliefs.
